Hi there, beautiful people!
Have I mentioned that we're moving from Charlotte, NC in less than a week?! If not, I'm surprised because the truth is...I'm *unbelievably* happy about this! Before we take off, I wanted to share with you one of my most favorite things that took place in this city: our engagement photos. I am way late posting them, but better late than never, right?!
These photographs were taken in NoDa, Charlotte, NC’s historic arts and entertainment district. Our session began at the McGill Rose Garden and continued along the streets of NoDa and inside a few local businesses as well.
On an entirely superficial level, I find these photographs to be aesthetically pleasing (thanks to Marylou of All Bliss Photography)! I’d like to think she captured our connection beautifully. We are not models, mind you, just two normal human beings—utterly in love.
Furthermore, the representation of Arabs in the media is bleak, so I think it’s a radical act to consciously show up as something other than villains.
Lastly, in full disclosure, I submitted these photographs to an online magazine or two which feature engagement and wedding photographs. Both rejected them. I must admit that initially, I was rather bummed. It felt important to me to showcase our love in a public way, especially as I noticed that people who look like us aren't often featured in such editorial magazines and their respective social media pages. Oh well...
Alas, these magical photographs, which are precious to me, will live on my own website.
This is our counter-narrative.
